Q: My flight gets in at 10am, may I check in early? A: Early check in is sometimes available, and we will do our best to have the unit ready early if we know you’ll be arriving before 4pm. However, we can almost always provide luggage storage until the unit is ready for check in. Let us know what your needs are.

Q: My flight gets in late in the evening, can I check in after 11pm? A: Yes, you can. You’ll receive a 4-digit code that admits you to the unit whenever you arrive. Typically that code is the last 4 digits of your cell phone number.

Q: My flight leaves in the evening, can I delay check out? A: Our unit is usually completely booked, so we almost always will have guests arriving on the day you check out. Still, if we are able to offer delayed checkout we will attempt to do so if you let us know the night before. In any event, we can usually store luggage for a few hours until you are ready to head out of town.

Q: Is there on-site dedicated parking? A: No, there is no dedicated parking space. Street parking is almost always available within ½ block of the entry to the unit, and it is free.

Q: Why do you request advance contact with you for parents traveling with children under 8? A: The unit has not been “child proofed”, meaning that there are no tamper-resistant covers on electrical outlets, and other child-protection features have not been installed. We also do not have a crib or other infant care equipment. Parents will need to take these factors into consideration before booking our unit. That said, we have had a number of guests with infants or small children, and they found the unit met their needs just fine.

Q: Is your unit in or close to downtown Portland? A: The Quiet Retreat is 2.6 miles from Pioneer Courthouse Square, the heart of downtown Portland. It is a relatively short bicycle ride on a street with bike lanes, and about a 10-15 minute drive. Bus service on the two routes that go downtown runs frequently during the day and takes about 15-20 minutes. The unit is two blocks from the busy NE Broadway commercial strip with plenty of services, including many restaurants. The Lloyd Center shopping mall is a 15 minute walk from the unit with a Macy’s department store and many popular chain shops.

Q: Is there a place to smoke in or near the unit? A: Smoking is never allowed in the unit. But smokers may use our back garden area to light up when the weather is nice.

Q: You didn’t mention air conditioning. What about hot summer days? A: With a below-grade location, and massively thick walls, the unit stays comfortable even on 100 degree days. Opening the windows at night draws in Portland’s typically cool night breezes for additional cooling.

Q: Is the unit quiet despite being under your residence? A: Even very sound sensitive guests have been amazed at how quiet the unit is. Due to it’s being a modern build, the unit has sophisticated sound insulation in the ceiling to block sounds from upstairs and double-pane glazing to muffle sounds from outdoors.

Q: Are you licensed with the City as a short term rental? A: Absolutely. Our License Number is 17-114589-000-00-HO.

Q: Do you charge extra for additional guests? A: Our pricing varies based on the time of the year. During the off-season, our pricing is the same for 1 through 4 persons. In busy periods, we charge the same for 1 or two persons, and have a modest extra fee for the third and fourth guests.
